In April 1994, the library media center moved into a new building. At that time, our new facility was dedicated to Mr. Gaylord Ensign, in honor of 27 years of teaching at Weldon Elementary School. Our library is open during school hours for our students. Weldon's LMC operates with a fixed schedule. This means each class has a scheduled weekly time they visit. Students are allowed to visit anytime during school hours as long as they have a pass from their teacher. The ELMC was recently remodeled during the 2015/2016 School Year. It reopened in February 2016 with a more spacious, modern lay out.
Weldon uses the Accelerated Reader program. Our hope is to instill a love of reading and learning while gaining better comprehension and improving their overall skills. Please look for information from your child's teacher.
What is Accelerated Reader (AR)?
Accelerated Reader is a digital program that helps students and teachers manage and monitor independent reading practice in both English and Spanish.
Students pick a book at their own level and read it at their own pace. When students finish the book, they take a short quiz on the computer to check their understanding.
As students read and take quizzes, they earn points and track their progress toward their individualized Accelerated Reader goals.
Teachers conference regularly with students to support reading engagement, goal setting, and comprehension strategies.
