Oral Interpretation

Oral Interpretation allows students to get a taste of performing onstage as part of a large vocal ensemble as they make literary works come to life.  An annual festival allows Oral Interpretation students to demonstrate their talents before schools from around the Clovis Unified School District.
This year our students are reciting "I Wanna Iguana"
From Mrs. Alexander: Have you ever wanted something so badly that you’d do almost anything to get it?? Well, Alex wants an iguana and he is trying to persuade his mom to let him have one. You decide if he does a good enough job! Then you can come watch to see if his mom thinks so too!
Practices 3 days a week from next week until mid-February when we perform. Any grade can participate, with teacher approval. I will hold practices Mon/Wednesday at upper grade lunch recess and Thursday in the morning before school at 7:30.
Any questions please contact Mrs. Alexander.

Fresno State Peach Blossom Festival

Peach Blossom Festival is an annual fun event sponsored by Fresno State University's Speech and Communication Department. The festival was started over fifty years ago, and was created to help young people learn how important it is to read literature aloud, interpretation, performing before a live audience, and how to be an audience member. Children attend from all areas of the Central Valley. Past festivals have had as many as 6,000 children participate!

Each year six to 10 students from grades K-6 are selected to represent Weldon at the Festival. Students practice ½ hour every day for a period of 4-5 weeks with Mrs. Ingram. Students learn to memorize a poem or story, giving it their personal interpretation. They create gestures to go with their selection, and practice performing in front of their team mates and Mrs. Ingram until the day before the festival in March. We have a great time, and form a special bond as performers.

Way to go team! We had 6 Superiors at this year's festival.
